“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.”
That’s true, isn’t it? Especially since online shopping became popular, it’s so easy to get whatever you want or need. Let’s take a look: in the last two weeks I bought a couple of things online like concert tickets, a round-trip ticket, clothes, shoes… It’s not because I’m lazy that I buy almost everything online it’s just so convenient… I mean you can get everything from everywhere anytime you want.
The only thing I have to complain about is that you usually shop alone, without your friends around. No one can give you additional advice, but to cover that problem Hendrik Kleinwächter had a new business idea…
The 21-year old Business Administration student at Private University of Applied Science in Göttingen invented software that allows companies to integrate their online shops into social networks.
He thought that people should either socialize where they buy things or vice versa, they should buy products where they socialize. Of course, nowadays the most commonly used social network is Facebook. Thus his prototype software byMii is momentarily only available for companies that have a Facebook account. If companies use that their e-shop will be perfectly integrated in their Facebook profile next to other categories like Info, Foto etc.
This way one can use the shop immediately. Moreover user can arrange virtual meetings with their friends in order to buy something as a group to benefit from discounts for large orders. Another tool you can use is the “ask a friend” button. Thereby your friends can give you advice after they have read the product information, too, which turns online shopping back to a group or friends activity.
Of course, we aren’t the only ones who would profit. According to the official byMii web page a company’s sales could raise by 25%. Sure, since people who like a product will probably recommend it to his friends via Facebook.
To promote his software he presented byMii on CeBIT in March (unfortunately this video is in German):
If that works, remains to be seen. Many companies have a Facebook account, but how many people actually use this additional information given? Most people use social networks in order to keep in touch with their friends not to “facebook” a company.
Nevertheless Hendrik Kleinwächter believes in his product, since he already has some clients, who are interested and if it really works he can earn quite a lot, because if a company’s sales go up because of this software he gets a small premium.
