May The Marketing Force Be With You: The Extraordinary Advertisement Possibilities On YouTube

To write, or not to write

Reading recent posts like  ‘Procrastination is the thief of time…?’ and ‘To be, or not to be.’ by NerdyLaura I was relieved that I am not the only one facing the huge problem of being an procrastinator.

The first time I came into contact with the term ‘procrastination’ was when I was in 8th grade. My English teacher was a fervid The Simpsons addict and she explained to us the meaning of the word ‘procrastination’ and told us that The Simpson’s moody Jewish Clown Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski’s stage name ‘Krusty the Clown’ was an allusion to the term procrastination.

Did you know that?

Hi everyone!

I´m one of the girls who will blog about business and IT related topics for the next couple of months.

Since this will be my first blog post I will write something about a topic everyone knows: facebook. But don´t worry I don´t want to bore you with facts and figures. No, I want to present some crazy stories that are related to facebook. Actually I read a lot of them but the following stories are the ones that surprised, shocked or made me laugh the most:

Because did you know…

…that facebook can save lives? Because in December 2009 a facebook post led to a kidney donation and in 2010 an English nurse clicked through her friend´s facebook pictures and suddenly stopped when she saw her friend´s child. She realized that one of the girls eyes was lit up white instead of red and immediately recognized that this could be a sign of cancer. Unfortunately she was right but this way she saved the girl’s life.

…that in October 2009 a 39-year-old Pennsylvania father was arrested for openly asking his 13-year-old daughter for sex over facebook?

…that a 20-year-old IBM employee in Canada lost sick leave benefits from her insurer because her facebook page showed “cheerful” photos while she was supposed to have a depression?

… that in march 2010 the Israeli army had to cancel a mission because a soldier had written “on Wednesday we are cleaning Qatanna, and on Thursday, God willing, going home” – even before it had happened?

…that in 2009 a groom updated his relationship status on facebook even before he kissed the bride?

So tell me, have you ever heard of it?

I guess by now everyone knows that we should take care of what we publish in the World Wide Web. One reason for that is, that we, the ones who regularly use social networks, become easy targets for online marketers because we share so many things in the web, which facilitates it to promote products…

But this is a different story and I think sooner or later I will come back to that topic when we talk about marketing or similar things but for now I will stop because I just wanted to give you a little introduction.

Hopefully you enjoyed it and maybe you will subscribe to our blog so that you can read regularly what we are currently talking about.
